I have had many people ask me when I am releasing the prequel to She’s Only Seventeen. Honestly, I have worked on it some and it’s about 99% finished but I’m just working on the extra push to finish it up.
As with its sequel, Just a Small Town Girl will feature controversial subjects such as heavy drug use and sex. Where it’s sequel focuses on sex as a way to communicate, this novel will feature heavy and graphic drug use. It will show the effects of constant drug use and how dangerous it can be. We have rock stars from the sixties and seventies so adultery is present also.
Within this novel, we meet Pete and Charlotte Crowne who are only mentioned in the sequel as being Kat’s parents. They are both dead before 1980 when the novel begins with Kat at thirteen.
Pete is your typical bad boy and Charlotte a small town girl. Hence the title. Pete’s in a band and he is a drummer and Charlotte is a good old church girl. They fall in love and Charlotte marries Pete and moves with him and becomes a rock star’s wife. Pretty typical right? Wrong.
Charlotte’s a tough Mississippi girl who finds herself in the big Apple. She makes friends and enemies as she observes her husband and his band mates get high. Charlotte does not condone drug use but she finds a friend eventually although brief.
We know from the sequel that Pete commits suicide but what gets him to this point? We also know that Charlotte kills herself right before the events of She’s Only Seventeen. Five years after Pete so many unanswered questions.
I’m hoping to release the novel in November so keep an eye out. Cover art has already been released and will post links as soon as it does go on sale.
